Arkansas Nominees for 2010 US Army All-American Bowl

Seven high school football players from Arkansas are among the 400 nominees for the 10th Annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl that will be played January 9, 2010 in the Alamodome in San Antonio Texas. The pool of 400 will be eventually reduced to an East and West squad made-up of 45 players each.

Last month, eight former U.S. All-American Bowl players were drafted in the first round of the NFL draft with 21-players overall being drafted. Over 32,000 fans attended last year's game.

Arkansas High School Football Pre-Season Rankings


Three of last year's Arkansas high school football champs should find themselves the best in the state once again, at least according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, which has released its pre-season high school football rankings. Defending champs Fayetteville (7A), Lake Hamilton (6A) and Nashville (4A) are all ranked #1 in the season's first pole, while 2007 5A champ Greenwood is ranked #2. 2A runner-up Bearden gets the pre-season top spot in the state's lowest classification.

Greenwood Three-Peats Arkansas 5A Championship


Greenwood became the third 2007 Arkansas high school football champion in 2007 to win a state title after losing a regular season meeting with the other state finalist.

Greenwood (12-2) beat Little Rock Christian 27-6 Saturday for the state's 5A championship. During the regular season Little Rock Christian (13-1) crushed Greenwood 44-7.

The title is the third straight for Greenwood.

Texarkana Defends Arkansas 6A Title


Texarkana won its second straight Arkansas 6A high school football title beating Lake Hamilton 13-0.

The win came four weeks after Lake Hamilton beat Texarkana 23-14 during their regular season match-up. Lake Hamilton was hurt by three interceptions and four fumbles.

Texarkana nows owns five state championships.

Fayetteville Captures Arkansas 7A Title


Fayettevile reversed the regular season outcome with Springdale Har-Ber to capture Arkansas' Class 7A high school football championship.

Springdale won the regular season match-up 42-41 in overtime, but on Saturday it was Fayetteville, behind bruising Cody Hammer, walking away with the trophy with a 28-7 win at War Memorial Stadium.

Hammer was the game's MVP with 205 yards and two touchdowns. It was Fayetteville's first title.
